In the State

Higher education associations, alcohol beverage control boards, state prevention associations, and local government officials can all play key roles in developing, implementing, and garnering support for local and statewide prevention efforts and policies.

Associations of Colleges and Universities/State College or University Systems
Whether an association of colleges and universities, or a state college and university system, these organizations are ideal mechanisms for garnering presidential support for prevention efforts.

Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC)
The state ABC board, as a regulatory agency designed to control alcohol licensing and codes, is very effective in helping prevention efforts develop effective alcohol control policies throughout the state.

State Prevention Agencies
State substance abuse prevention agencies can provide resources and help prevention groups join forces to develop and influence state policy.

State Legislators
The support of state legislators is crucial for state policy development and sufficient resource allocation. Prevention groups should work to cultivate relationships with key legislators early in their prevention work.
